Wimbledon suffered their heaviest defeat of the season with a 4-0 reverse at promotion-chasing Leicester City.
Paul Dickov's hat-trick was the highlight of an impressive Foxes showing, but two of his goals came from penalties as the visitors struggled to come to terms with Leicester's attacking strength.
Dons boss Stuart Murdoch was forced into two changes, with Rob Gier replacing the suspended Damien Francis and Wayne Gray deputising for the injured David Connolly. Gier moved into centre-half with Trond Andersen occupying the central midfield role.
And from the outset it was the Foxes who began to pile sustained pressure on the visitors.
With Billy McKinlay and Muzzy Izzet pulling the strings in midfield, and Jamie Scowcroft sitting behind the front pairing in a 4-3-1-2 formation, it was all the Dons could do to keep Leicester at bay.
They forced a good chance on nine minutes when Trevor Benjamin got down the right and crossed for Paul Dickov, whose shot was saved brilliantly by Kelvin Davis, Moritz Volz, pictured right, clearing the loose ball.
The central defensive pairing of Mark Williams and Gier did well to halt Dickov and Benjamin on a couple of occasions as the Foxes continued to dominate possession.
The Dons slowly settled down and had a good chance of their own on 14 minutes when Jermaine Darlington beat his man down the left and centred for Neil Shipperley, who blasted over from 10 yards.
Dickov curled a low effort wide of the mark with Davis beaten on 29 minutes, and at the other end Gray was crowded out in the box following good work down the right from Gareth Ainsworth.
Davis pulled off another superb save on the half-hour mark, palming away a powerful shot from Dickov, and the Dons went straight down the other end, Wayne Gray going one-on-one with Leicester keeper Ian Walker, who saved bravely at Gray's feet.
Minutes later and the Walker's Stadium erupted as referee Mr Evans awarded the hosts a penalty. Alan Rogers cross from the left and the linesman spotted that Jermaine Darlington had tugged the shirt of Frank Sinclair. Dickov blasted home the spot-kick to put Leicester ahead.
On 39 minutes insult was added to injury for the Dons as Mikele Leigertwood was adjudged to have handled Izzet's cross. Once again a penalty was the result, and once again Dickov beat Davis from the spot.
Half-time: Leicester City 2 Wimbledon 0
The home supporters had voted on the name of the club at half-time, with the vast majority opting to keep Leicester City in favour of a switch to the old 'Fosse' moniker.
And within moments of the re-start the actual result was effectively put beyond doubt as the Foxes grabbed their third goal. Jordan Stewart floated a lovely cross from the left flank, it looped over the head of Rob Gier into the path of Benjamin, who chested the ball down and slotted past Davis, pictured left, from close range.
Murdoch made a change on the hour mark, introducing Lionel Morgan for his first action since early January following his recovery from a cartilage operation. Morgan replaced Darlington on the left flank.
Wimbledon endeavoured to get things going, but Leicester's resolute defending gave them little change, with Matt Elliott and Gerry Taggart under no discernable pressure.
Izzet did very well to get back and stop Gray in his tracks on 68 minutes after he had been released by Ainsworth.
Williams' cross from the right was headed over the bar by Ainsworth moments later, but the Dons had to rely on the woodwork on 73 minutes as Scowcroft got above the Dons defence to head Rogers' corner onto the bar from close range.
Patrick Agyemang was thrown on as a replacement for Trond Andersen on 74 minutes in a last throw of the dice for the Dons.
Gray headed over the bar from Ainsworth's deep cross on 77 minutes, and Walker had to be alert to tip over Ainsworth's angled drive seconds later and substitute Matt Jones nearly put the ball in his own net from Morgan's cross.
Walker then produced another good reaction save to stop Shipperley's goalbound header on the line after a deep cross from Ainsworth.
But Leicester made it 4-0 with just one minute remaining as Stewart's shot from distance was only parried by Davis into the path of Dickov, who slotted home from close range to claim his hat-trick and seal the point.
